Congratulations on your new home! You’ve been waiting for this day and now that it’s here, you’re ready to relax after a long day of moving. So what do you do after move-in day? There are many things to consider, from unpacking boxes to decorating the space. In this blog post, we’ll discuss some tips on how to make your new house feel like a home after your move-in day!
Things to do After Your Move-In Day
While you may be ready to pop the champagne and celebrate there are still a ton of things that need to happen before your house starts to feel like a home! We know moving day can be exhausting and the last thing you probably want to do is think about what’s next, however, it is very important that you do think about all the things that need to happen after your move-in day.
1. Inspect Delivered Boxes
Your boxes were delivered after a long drive and after being stacked onto trucks, maybe even loaded onto cargo ships, unloaded from said ship onto another truck, driven to your new hometown, and then finally pulled off of the moving truck. This means that there is a chance that some damage was done along the way making it very important for you to inspect all of the boxes after they are unloaded from the moving truck.
Because of this, it is extremely important to hire a reputable moving company that you can trust. If by some chance any of your belongings are damaged it is important for you to reach out to your moving company in order to resolve the issue.
2. Make Sure Your Utilities are Set Up
Another very important task after your move-in day is to make sure all of the utilities you need are set up. This includes electricity, gas, water, and internet if available in your new home.
It’s also a good idea to know what days trash pickup will occur so that you can prepare yourself accordingly with this new task after your move-in day.
3. Unpack Your Essentials
After your move-in day, it is important for you to only unpack the essentials instead of unpacking your belongings willy nilly. By doing this you are helping yourself stay organized as you plan out your next steps and move room by room to get settled. This includes food, toiletries, and anything else you need for daily life routines such as clothing or shoes.
Moving can be a stressful process that’s why it’s always best to keep things simple by unpacking only what you know you will need after your move-in day first before moving onto your non-essential items.
4. Get Organized
Organizing after your move-in day is extremely important. This helps you get settled so that it will be easier for you to find things after a long day of unpacking, makes the space feel more like home, and allows everything to have a place where they belong while also helping yourself stay organized in general!
There are many ways to get organized after your move-in day. You can organize by room, or even just organize yourself through general life organization such as putting things back where they belong after using them so you know exactly where to put it when you’re done!
5. Secure Your New Home
After your move-in day is complete, it’s important to make sure the house you just moved into is secure.
Make sure you take the time to inspect all of the doors and windows with a fine-tooth comb to make sure that they are working and operational in each room throughout your new home. If there are any repairs that need to be done such as fixing locks or replacing window locks, it’s important to schedule these repairs as soon as possible. This will add an extra layer of security when you’re home alone or are arriving home after a long day out.
6. Childproof
If you have young children childproofing is something that should be at the top of your list! It will help to ensure that there are no hazards for children who could potentially be running around after they arrive home from school or playing outside in the yard after their daily playtime routine! There are many ways you can do this such as organizing all toys or putting up any gates you already own after a thorough inspection to make sure they’re in working order and ready to be used after your new home is completed.
7. Connect Major Appliances
While you may be exhausted after a long day of moving, it is important that you take the time to make sure everything from the stove and refrigerator are plugged in as well as setting up any smart technology devices such as an Amazon Echo or Nest thermostat if available. This will not only ensure safety after your move-in day but will also help you acclimate after the big transition!
8. Finish Unpacking
Since you have already finished unpacking your essentials and have put your other boxes in their designated rooms it’s time to start unpacking everything else. Some people like to go room by room and unpack while others have their own way of organizing and unpacking that works best.
